Hit Dog’s Quick ?!
24th December, 2010Yesterday, as I was trimming up Panda’s nails I accidently cut one too short and revealed her quick…
To stop the bleeding I instantly thought of humans and treated her as so:
First, I ran her paw under cold water
Second, I gently dabbed the end of her nail with a double ended qtip (to see how much it was still bleeding) Since it was bleeding a bit still I put a gentle pressure onto the “hole” with the qtip…this stopped the bleeding.
Third, I put some Polysporin on the end of the other side of the qtip and dabbed that on the end of her nail (to kill bacteria and help the nail heal faster)
Fourth, I used another qtip and removed the polysporin (thinking maybe it’s not allowed to be used on Dogs – not sure what it would do in her bloodstream)
Fifth, I didn’t want it to get infected (and the bleeding had stopped by now) so I (not knowing where our tensor bandages are) wrapped her foot up with her Santa boot…
We had planned on a walk that very same day (yesterday) so boots it was !!
That evening I checked the nail before bed and after watching some pet shows on tv (one talked about a pet first aid kit) I dabbed her nail with some peroxide to see it bubble and sure enough it did…then I added a good glob of polysporin (since the show suggested that peroxide and polysporin are ok to use on your pets) to the end of her nail, put her boot on and put her to bed…
And below is what her quick looks like right now…
Since another walk is in store today, and her quick is still showing, she WILL be wearing her boots yet again !! :) She looks hilarious walking in them too btw. She actually “trots” or “runs” in them, but her feet go way up so she almost kicks herself in the bum while “trotting”… hehe
