The Entrance Closet

5th September, 2006

My trip back to British Columbia from living a year away from home at Bible School was very interesting. It was about eight years ago now, but I remember there were four of us and all our stuff squished into a guy’s/friend/peer’s van. We stopped for food on the way and there was a fellow there that was obviously homeless. He asked us if we new "the way"? (His exact words were I believe, "Do you know the way?")  Like he was searching for God or something.  Bizarre I know, but Lance, one of the friends in the van, started talking to him. I was praying in the background. Lance led this guy to the Lord right there and then and I just happened to have a small New Testament handy so I said to Lance "here you can give this to him to get him started on his journey". So Lance did and the guy was so Thankful!!! He seemed to be rather shocked and very happy that we had given him something that he thought to be so precious. I think that was my favourite part of this whole trip home.

Another interesting thing that happened was that when it started getting darker it rained and snowed on the highway and since our friend’s wipers broke or he didn’t have any on there to begin with, the whole way home in the dark was unbearably difficult. In order to see, he had to stick his head out the window in the snow and rain while following the taillights in front of us, it was however very difficult if there were none. So we ended up stopping at a gas station on the way, where we were able to ask some people if we could use their taillights and follow them, it just so happened too that they were actually heading the exact same direction as we were, which was a blessing.

Once I got home and pulled all my stuff upstairs where the front door was, I walked in to discover my brother sleeping in the entrance closet. My mom had a small two bedroom condo and really wanted a bedroom for my brother so while I was away in Alberta at College for a year she made him a room. There was one wall connecting the entrance closet to a storage room so what did my mom do? She used a hand saw and cut the bottom half of the wall out (I guess that’s where I get my impatience from). So there on the floor was my brother all rolled up in a sleeping bag. I could not believe it! I don’t know if I couldn’t believe the fact that my mom did that herself by hand or that the entrance closet was now my brother’s room. Anyway, the times with my mom have always been defiantly fun times and very interesting, most of the time anyway.
