Toilet Explosion
This seasonally confused weekend surprised me with hot sunny weather Saturday, which was beautiful for the outdoor wedding Jeff and I attended, and a rumbustious thunder and lightening storm Sunday.
Saturday, at the wedding, soon after the cutting of the cake Jeff got a call from our 4-plex neighbors. They said, we had to bust into your house because water was gushing down through your floor onto the carport below! They proceeded to say, we broke in and shut the water off. That’s when we jerking-ly arose from our round white clothed covered table at the wedding, during speeches, and speed walked passed all the guests, hopped over a ribbon and ran walked through the Hazelnut orchard to where our van was waiting patiently for us. We sped home. Jeff said, I don’t care if I get a ticket! We arrived and saw the water pouring out the carport ceiling onto the floor below forming 4 huge puddles on the ground. When we got to the front door, I was afraid to open it, thinking water would gush out onto us.
I slowly opened the door to see no water, but when we took one step inside onto the silver-ish bur bur carpet we could feel the soft, mushy, sponge like surface beneath. Listening to the squishy splooshing sound as we walked we scoped out the place. Looking at the damage and that’s when we both freaked a bit. Repeating aloud to one another "where are the cats?" You see the cats are strictly indoors. They never go out. And since the neighbors broke in through a window, which required the removal of the screen, we were a bit concerned. So we frantically searched the entire house, looking in rooms with closed doors. We found the mama cat, Salsa first. Scared as ever, sitting on the scratching post upstairs where it was dry, shaking with fear. Then we searched and searched for the papa cat-Nacho and their daughter-Rufio. Rufio was locked up in the crate, so I thought it odd that we couldn’t see her. Then after my worry subsided a bit, my logic returned and I took a closer look. THERE! she was, hiding inside the covered litter box. Reclusive-ly peaking through the tinted flap door. And now there was just Nacho to find. I went to the front door, thinking of where he hides when I’m vacuuming, and there he was! Scrunched real tight into a ball, trying to look as small as ever between the upright freezer and the wall. He was so scared that the wet cold sponge like floor beneath him didn’t matter. I pulled him out and noticed his tail all wet. As Jeff was still searching I called to him saying I FOUND HIM. Jeff came running over and joined me in petting Nacho. Telling him everything was ok. Jeff then exclaimed, "He’s all wet!" Looking down at his hand, "Ew. What is this?" I looked at his hand and there on his index finger was a tiny maget, moving.
Nacho was sitting in the worst spot possible for a toilet flood. In the hallway, just outside the bathroom door! But we were home, and he was safe. After cleaning Nacho, I prepared the guest room for him and Salsa. Locked them in there, while Jeff and I along with some neighbors used towels, mops and cups to soak up all the water. A friend of ours looked at the toilet later and said, the tank cracked of which sent the water splooshing catastrophically all over our main floor. Jeff and I were surprised the toilet "exploded" since it had not been used for a couple days (it’s our company washroom) and we weren’t even home when it happened. I guess appliances have a mind of their own hey?
So today we are getting new toilets put in and since I’m at the office working, I will have to put some before and after pictures up for tomorrow’s post for you all to see! Oh I forgot to mention that our 56 inch, 500 dollars on CraigsList, Toshiba TV was water damaged, so it being Jeff’s blankey if you will, we HAD to get a new tv to replace it. Therefore, we went straight to Future Shop Sunday to purchase a new much-more-expensive 50inch Samsung. And now we are in the process of reorganizing our place. I’ve even started packing, 6 months early, as we plan on moving in 6 months.
I am so glad I am at the office working and Jeff is dealing with the landlord and the mess at home. I hope when I get home tonight the bathrooms are in working condition. We had to get both toilets replaced because the upstairs toilets bowl had a huge crack in it, of which we were afraid would be the next one to go, and we sure don’t want our bedroom flooded!
The Broccoli Salad, Fat-Free Sugar-Free Yogurt, Ginger Beef, House Special Rice, and Sheszuan Prawns are filling my imagination with a beautiful aroma as they sit snuggling in the Lock&Lock plastic containers I have packed in my huge iced lunch bag, keeping cool. I must eat some lunch and then get back to work. I hope to work another couple hours or so and be home before volleyball starts tonight. I like to relax a bit with Jeff after work, while watching some of our favourite shows, and I am rather excited to try out the new tv. Can’t wait to see the new toilets too!
