Schedules Are Scheduled Aren’t They?
5th September, 2010According to Dictionary.com a “Schedule” is as follows:
1.
a plan of procedure, usually written, for a proposed objective, esp. with reference to the sequence of and time allotted for each item or operation necessary to its completion: The schedule allows three weeks for this stage.
2.
a series of things to be done or of events to occur at or during a particular time or period: He always has a full schedule.
Recently, I have learned that I do not dig “on-call” or “subject to change” schedules. I mean once and a while is ok, but frequently? nope! not for me!! And yesterday, I let my new Employer knows this too. I wonder what will happen now?
How is a person to make plans around a schedule that is constantly changing, or when a person is “on-call”?
I just want a SCHEDULE like defined by dictionary.com. I want to know 2 – 3 weeks in advance, what the series of days I will be working are and what is to be done. This is ridiculous!
I will be going to work “potentially” in a few hours here… I better get my nail clippers out and cut my nails for this!
Keeping you posted,
Demara

I hate on call too. I like to have my days planned, and an occasional call is ok, frequent is not so much!
I’ve had a lot of jobs that give me less than a week notice – I hate it! I was an RA on campus and we had “On-call” hours – but we had to stay on property and the on call time was figured into our pay… and it was a little different because we LIVED there.
It’s one thing if you get compensated for being “On-Call” but if not – it’s just a pain in the ass!
You sound like me – I need a lot of structure when it comes to work. Nannying kind of sucks for that though – especially with the jobs the people I have work for, their schedules change all the time (DR. and police) so mine do to!
