What Does Del Dia Mean Anyway?

So after posting my Corner View and reading so many others, I was curious to find out what the heck “Del Dia” meant.

Jane, the host of Corner View is in Spain, therefore it made sense that today’s topic would sound kind of Spain-like with the words: Del Dia attached to the word Menu. See here!

Assuming it meant “restaurant” or “on the menu” I was profoundly surprised to see that, in Spanish, it actually meant: “It is the month of Thanksgiving day” .

So since I didn’t write anything about Thanksgiving yesterday I figure I will now.

Here in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving in October on the second Monday, so this year ours was on the 12th and next year it’ll be on the 11th.

This month, aka “mes” in Spanish, is the month of our Anniversary, which was on the 21st.

What triggered this post?

While visiting Ibb I was overwhelmed by many questions. I was curious to know what language she was showcasing on her Corner View menu, and translating for us in her post so I researched further.

I learned that: Vitoria-Gasteiz, Euskadi is in Spain!

Autonomous community (pop., 2005 est.: 2,124,846) and historical region, northern Spain. Learn More…

I had never heard of this place before and was curious where the heck it was located in this world. Seeing her profile picture there with all that snow, I thought it must have been somewhere in Europe!

What interesting things I have learned today!

Tonight, I will hunt down a novel I started reading a few months ago, so that while my husband is gone so many hours in the day for jury duty I will have something to keep me occupied after the work is done and I have all that free time on my hands.

THX Erika for the excellant suggestion of finding a series to get lost into! I think that is a great idea. Mari had the same idea too I believe, and I was discussing what I do in my free time with Jeff and realized that I do in fact like to read. In my free time, I read a lot of blogs. Reading however makes me very sleepy because of my eye disease, but sleepy is good especially when I am finding it difficult too sleep.

I do love books! But do I love them enough to work with them?

I’ve been contemplating going back to school to finish up my Library Diploma. I have one semester of classes left, before I would graduate!! It’s been a few years since I even was in school, so I’m a bit scared. And anxious thinking about actually working in the field that took me 10 years to decide on! (I started the Library and Information Technology Program in 2000 and if I go back to school to finish it, depending when I would go back, assuming I would, and graduate in 2010. It would be a total of 10 years that it would have taken me to decide on a 2 year program.) All these questions running through my head, in particular: will I remember all the things I learned while at University when actually in the field working? Oh dear.

I really would like the direction and focus a career would give me. I am craving the potential too!!

  1. Menu del día, just means, the menu that is served in restaurants everyday. It is like a selections of dishes where you choose what you want to eat. It is like a menu, but smaller and cheaper.
Be wellcome to visit and ask what you want.

  2. hey demara- restaurants in spain must put a daily menu separate from there regular menu at a set cost- (usually cheaper) it´s the law- and it´s called menu del diá- they also must post it outside so patrons can see what they are offering. hope this makes sense- happy day!

  3. Well – I’ve learned a lot here today! I think it would be neat if you went back and got that degree. I think you would do great!
