How Many Caches Can We Do in ONE Day?

1st April, 2009
Today we had another long day.

It felt like the Rally day all over again.

We made it our mission this morning to start off early along with Goinggone, linked to on my sidebar, so that we could accomplish our goal of exceeding our 9 cache total for one day.

Goinggone’s record is 34 caches in one day and since ours was 9 we wanted to learn how they do it. Unfortunately, only half of the Goinggone team could accompany us on today’s mission.

How many caches could we do today?

By lunchtime, noon, we had met our goal by making our 10th cache.

However, due to landing on a very sharp piece of thick log on this trail on my upper thigh, the sharp piece of wood just missed my crotch, and having a very sore foot, due to those new hiking boots I wore for half of the Rally, I was in very bad shape.

I fell a couple times on this trail

The trail was rough.

Half of it was washed out. I’m pretty sure it was not made for walking, but for mountain biking, as there were a lot of wooden bridges we had to cross if we didn’t want too too soaked feet, although for many parts it was hard to avoid the slooshing inside the shoe!

It was a very damp cold day.

It snowed too, slushed, then snowed, and the snow stuck in some parts. But mostly it rained today. Showered. And the earth drunk.

This goal marking cache, pictured above though, was the largest traditional cache we’ve seen yet. It was in that huge container to the right of Jeff’s leg, hidden in this shack. It was neat finding some shelter in the middle of nowhere on this 2 hour long hike through the wet earth!

today.

We made it.

Exceeded our goal

We made our new goal 11 caches in 8 hours!

and hope to do even better next time,
with proper footwear,
And nicer weather

here are some photos from our long day

at this one I broke a fence.
the boys fixed it!

Thank-you boys!
I found the cache though :o)

And I hope to be more careful next time. lol

my jacket is not waterproof, not when it’s turned almost black anyway. it’s a light green almost bronze color when dry!
