This is the kind of food I like to eat. And I made it. Go figure hey?!?!

I don’t cook.

But today my husband liked what I made and ate it too !!

Originally, in my head, it started off as, marinated turkey with rice and green peas on the side.

However, I spotted the crockpot sitting lonely on the island, and remembered reading Mari’s Slow Cooking Thursday post, and thought I can marinate the turkey in the crockpot for Supper. It was lunch time.

So I pulled out the crockpot, and the VERY frozen turkey.

I began by dropping the turkey pucks, aka frozen skinless boneless turkey breasts, in the crockpot. Then I thought I’m pretty sure they’ll need some water, so they don’t burn once thawed.

I put in one cup then two then another just till there was about 2 cups sitting above the turkey.

Then I thought, I want to create an Asian flavoured marinated turkey breast.

So I started pulling out all our Asian condiments.

Sweet Chilli Sauce-my favourite, Teriyaki, Fish Sauce, and Scesuawan (sp?).

Poured about 1/4C of each into the water…making the water a lovely brown color.

Then I thought that meat might need some oil, so I tossed in about 1/4C EVOO.

Then I thought, we have one onion in the fridge, I’ll cut that up and put it in for flavour.

That’s when I saw the cloves of garlic. thinking this will help us fight off any cold or flus going around. I cut up an entire head and tossed that in, minced a bit.

It was at this point that Jeff asked me if I had a plan B, in case it didn’t work out. “In case it didn’t work out?” I retaliated back at him. I said, “What’s the worst thing that could happen, right? It’s soup!! Soup is the easiest thing to make!! haha by this point thinking and deciding, since it looked a lot like soup…I was going to make it soup!

And thought it needs something green.

So I went to the freezer to get out my favourite veggie, green peas, grabbed them and spotted a bag of roasted potatoes.

So I poured in those veggies, the entire bag of potatoes, and about 1/2C of peas.

Then I added more flavour, because it didn’t smell good.

I pulled out some ginger powder, garlic powder, onion powder, Spike, salt, and seaweed.

After adding all of those…it smelled much better…after 5 hours I took out the turkey breasts and cut them up into chunks, then let it simmer for another hour.

After it had simmered for 6 hours, filling the entire house with sweet spicy aromas, we ate. And were satisfied.

It reminded me of a Hungarian Goulash, and Jeff said, “it tastes like Asian French Soup and I think this is the best thing you’ve ever cooked !!”.

So there you have it folks. I can cook soup I suppose. Gypsy style!!

And now you have the gypsy style recipe for Spicy Asian Turkey Soup, so you can try it at home too :  ))
